They say strong roots produce beautiful flowers. Gems wanted to be a part of the change we all want to see in the world, by taking care of our neighbors. From July 29 to September 22, gems partnered with H-E-B through our Lone Star Living bouquet program in the “Summer of Giving” campaign to donate a percentage of each bouquet sold to Feeding Texas to help support a hunger-free community.
Feeding Texas is a non-profit organization, including a network of 21 member food banks with the common goal to ensure access to healthy and sufficient food for all Texans. One in seven Texans experiences food insecurity, with children and seniors bearing some of the greatest consequences. New research suggests that food insecurity had doubled in Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Texas Department of Agriculture cut food bank funding, leaving many families hungry. Through our combined efforts, Feeding Texas raised donations for households who must often make the difficult decision between food and other basic necessities.
