Hey there everyone! As we’re sure y’all know, we aren’t ones to shy away from giving people a reason to smile; In our most recent 1 Million Smiles event, we visited a place you might’ve heard of, but certainly gave us reasons to smile. So grab a seat, maybe a snack, and let’s dive into our visit to Camillus House as we continue on reaching 1 Million Smiles.
Camillus House is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing care and services to the homeless population in Miami-Dade. Their mission is to help individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness; They offer assistance in becoming self-sufficient, aiding transition into permanent housing, and offer shelter, food, healthcare, and job training programs. From the moment we arrived, Camillus House struck us with the warmth and care of the staff and volunteers. They greeted us with open arms, they were eager to show us around and share their stories.
Throughout the tour, the staff showed us around the shelter to see the different services provided. We were impressed by the number of resources that were available to the residents. We stopped by the dining room, where residents were able to enjoy a hot meal. In addition, we saw the medical clinic, where they could receive basic healthcare services. Furthermore, we visit the job training program where residents were learning new skills to help them find employment.
The staff truly cares about the well-being of everyone who comes in, going above and beyond, making sure they have everything they needed. We saw them helping residents with job applications, providing emotional support, and even helping with personal hygiene. Upon giving out our bouquets, we saw several of the heartwarming smiles grow even bigger. They voiced how grateful they were, showing that something super simple can make a person’s day.
In conclusion, the staff and volunteers at Camillus House are making a big difference in the lives of those who are experiencing homelessness in Miami-Dade.
